Breaking News! A new organization was formed and to resume fire protection for all of Aspendell and South Fork! Please see the new site: http://asfvfd.org

In the aftermath of the Aspendell Municipal Water Company's July 7, 2012 annual meeting vote to end future funding of their Aspendell Volunteer Fire Department and planned disposal of its fire trucks and equipment 180 days later, a broad based group of concerned neighbors has met monthly with the goal of developing an alternative means of providing fire protection to the entire Aspendell community. Neighbors who signed up as interested in this effort and those attending the meetings are noted in a roster posted here.

An advisory ballot with a cover letter was prepared and mailed at the end of November 2012 to property owners in both Aspendell and neighboring South Fork to guage the interest level and the type of fire protection options the home and property owners are interestd in pursuing.

A tabulation dated March 8, 2013 of the straw ballots returned since November is posted here. A discussion of the results of this poll and next steps to be taken will be the subject of additional meetings and dilberations this Spring and Summer.

A link is psoted here that has a good overview of so called "special districts."  It is published by a State wide agency of LAFCO's and special districts and is a good primer for understanding what they are and how they are formed, administered and maintained.
